This summer has been golden so far for Florida Atlantic University sophomore Brittany Bowe, who won three inline-roller skating events at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janiero last week.
Bowe captured the 300-meter time trial, the 1000m combined and the 500-meter combined despite the fact she and the other competitors skated on a wooden, pieced together surface rather than the cement track they are accustomed to.
“The issue was going to be to grip and skate around the corners as hard as you can,” Bowe said.
Her preparation for racing on a different surface wasn’t any different from her preparation before all those other races on the cement track.
“I was calm, but focused,” she said.
