The lineup has been altered and the surface is unfamiliar, but those manipulations won't change the overall confidence both Brittany Bowe and Joey Mantia will take with them into today's opening events in inline speed skating at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro.
"They wouldn't be anything less than gold," was Bowe's reply when asked what her expectations were.
Bowe and Mantia are both from Ocala, Bowe a 2006 graduate of Trinity Catholic who plays basketball for Florida Atlantic and Mantia a 2004 Vanguard grad who recently relocated to Olympia, Wash., to train for speed skating on ice.
They are also favorites to capture just what Bowe believes is within their grasp - the gold medal.
